Sri Lanka's national javelin champion, Rumesh Tharanga, booked his place in the Commonwealth Games men's javelin final after producing a remarkable performance in the qualification round in Scotland on Wednesday (30).
Tharanga topped the qualification standings with a throw of 82.84 metres, raising Sri Lanka's hopes of a medal
In a standout display, he finished ahead of Olympic gold medallists Neeraj Chopra of India and Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan. Chopra placed fifth with a throw of 79.61 metres, while Nadeem finished seventh after recording 78.63 metres.
India's Rohit Yadav (78.37m) and Yash Veer Singh (78.36m) also secured places among the 12 athletes who qualified for the final.
