The Department of Meteorology has issued a warning for strong winds and rough sea conditions in several coastal waters around Sri Lanka.

The advisory, issued at 9:00 a.m. on 30 July, will remain in effect until 9:00 a.m. on 31 July.

According to the Department, the warning applies to the sea areas extending from Kankesanthurai to Kalpitiya via Mannar and from Hambantota to Pottuvil.

Winds over these offshore sea areas are expected to reach speeds of 60–70 km/h at times, causing the sea to become very rough intermittently.

The Department of Meteorology has strongly advised the naval and fishing communities to avoid venturing into these sea areas until further notice in the interest of safety.
