The Department of Meteorology has issued a heat advisory warning that the heat index is expected to reach "Caution" levels in nine districts across Sri Lanka today.
According to the advisory, the affected districts are Kilinochchi, Vavuniya, Mullaitivu, Trincomalee, Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Batticaloa, Ampara, and Monaragala.
The Department stated that the heat index, which reflects how hot it feels when humidity is combined with the actual air temperature, may reach levels that pose health risks, particularly for individuals exposed to the sun for prolonged periods or those engaged in strenuous outdoor activities.
The public has been advised to stay well hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight during the hottest parts of the day, wear light-colored and loose-fitting clothing, and take frequent breaks if working outdoors.
The Department of Meteorology has urged residents in the affected districts to remain vigilant and follow the recommended safety measures to minimize the health risks associated with the prevailing hot weather conditions.
