Central Bank Governor Nandalal Weerasinghe has warned that plantation companies accepting public deposits without being registered as licensed finance companies are operating illegally.

He urged the public not to invest in such schemes and advised existing investors to withdraw their funds immediately. Those unable to recover their money should report the matter to the Police or the Central Bank. The Governor stressed that only licensed finance companies are legally permitted to accept public deposits in Sri Lanka.
