Deputy Minister of Labour Mahinda Jayasinghe has instructed officials to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the factory fire at the Katuwana Industrial Zone in Homagama that claimed five lives.
The probe will examine the cause of the fire, compliance with occupational safety and fire protection standards, emergency preparedness, and possible negligence.
The Department of Labour has also been directed to intensify safety inspections at high-risk workplaces to help prevent similar incidents. Rescue operations are continuing at the site.
