The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) has announced that the QR code-based fuel quota system will continue, stating that there are currently no plans to discontinue the program.
CPC Managing Director Mayura Neththikumarage said the decision was taken in view of the ongoing uncertainty in the global fuel market and the need to ensure uninterrupted fuel distribution across the country.
He explained that the QR fuel quota system has played a key role in managing fuel stocks efficiently while also helping safeguard the country’s foreign exchange reserves.
Neththikumarage noted that maintaining the system would help prevent the recurrence of fuel shortages and long queues, particularly if the current geopolitical tensions and global conflicts were to intensify.
He further assured that the recent escalation of international conflicts has not disrupted Sri Lanka’s fuel supply network, adding that the CPC is closely monitoring developments in the global energy market for any potential impact on international fuel prices.
The CPC reiterated that the QR code-based fuel distribution mechanism will remain in operation as part of its strategy to ensure fuel security and maintain a stable supply for consumers.
