India, SL Hold Talks Ahead of BIMSTEC National Security Chiefs Meeting

India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval held discussions with Sri Lanka’s Defense Secretary Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd.) and other regional counterparts ahead of the fifth BIMSTEC National Security Chiefs’ Meeting in New Delhi. During the meeting held yesterday (15), Doval and Thuyacontha exchanged views on strengthening cooperation in defense, security, and maritime affairs, while also discussing regional and global security developments. The discussions were part of a series of bilateral meetings held by India’s NSA with senior officials from Sri Lanka, Thailand, Bangladesh, and Myanmar ahead of the BIMSTEC security summit. The fifth BIMSTEC National Security Advisers’ Meeting, hosted by India, is scheduled to be held today (16) in New Delhi, bringing together security officials from member states to discuss regional cooperation and emerging security challenges. BIMSTEC, established in 1997 through the Bangkok Declaration, currently consists of seven member countries Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Thailand and focuses on promoting cooperation in areas including security, economy, and regional development.
