A magistrate has issued an open warrant for Priyanka Niyomalie, the wife of former SriLankan Airlines CEO Kapila Chandrasena, after she failed to appear before court in connection with an alleged US$2 million corruption case linked to aircraft procurement.
The court directed that the warrant be translated into English and forwarded to Interpol, highlighting the seriousness of the allegations and efforts to secure her arrest if she is outside Sri Lanka.
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) presented further reports before the court, prompting the magistrate to authorize the warrant. The case also names several other suspects, including former Sri Lankan cricket captain Aravinda de Silva and his wife, who have been granted bail.
Interpol assistance has also been sought to arrest Samindra Rajapaksa, the son of former Minister Chamal Rajapaksa, who is reported to be residing in the United States.
The investigation focuses on alleged irregularities in aircraft procurement transactions between 2011 and 2015. The case involves claims of corrupt payments connected to major international aerospace companies, including Rolls-Royce and Airbus.
Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing as they continue efforts to trace suspects and examine evidence relating to the alleged procurement irregularities.
