The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has announced plans to introduce a pilot project to test passenger drone aircraft in Sri Lanka as part of efforts to modernize the country’s aviation sector.

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has announced plans to introduce a pilot project to test passenger drone aircraft in Sri Lanka as part of efforts to modernize the country’s aviation sector.

According to the CAA, the proposed drone aircraft will be capable of carrying up to six passengers and will initially be operated under a trial programme.

Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority, Daminda Rambukwella, said the pilot project is expected to pave the way for the introduction of advanced air mobility services in Sri Lanka.

Officials noted that similar passenger drone transport systems have already been introduced in countries including China, Singapore and Thailand, where they are being used as part of emerging urban air mobility initiatives.
