Man arrested at BIA with gold worth Rs. 10.185 Million

A Sri Lankan businessman has been arrested at Bandaranaike International Airport, Katunayake, after authorities allegedly discovered a consignment of undeclared gold valued at Rs. 10,185,514.

The suspect, a resident of Matale, was taken into custody yesterday (July 8) by officers of the Airport Police Narcotics Bureau. He is accused of illegally bringing the gold into Sri Lanka without the required permits and failing to declare it to Customs.

According to officials, the suspect arrived at the airport from Dubai at approximately 6:30 a.m. During an inspection of his luggage, officers recovered 12 gold necklaces, 10 gold bangles, and two gold biscuits, with a total weight of 271.480 grams.

The suspect was arrested, and the recovered gold was taken into custody. Further investigations are underway.
