According to police, the accident occurred when a container truck travelling from Avissawella towards Peliyagoda overturned while making a right turn at the Orugodawatta Junction within the Grandpass Police Division.
The incident resulted in the closure of two lanes on the carriageway from Dematagoda to Peliyagoda, causing significant delays for motorists.
To minimize traffic congestion, police have introduced temporary traffic diversions. Vehicles travelling in both directions Dematagoda to Peliyagoda and Peliyagoda to Dematagoda are being directed to share the lane normally designated for traffic from Peliyagoda towards Dematagoda.
Police have urged motorists to exercise caution, follow the directions of traffic officers, and consider using alternative routes where possible until the overturned truck is removed and normal traffic flow is restored.
Efforts are currently underway to clear the obstruction and reopen the affected lanes.
