A carriage of the train scheduled to depart from Colombo Fort Railway Station to Rambukkana at 4:45 p.m. derailed at around 4:50 p.m. today (July 7), according to the Department of Railways. The incident occurred as the train was approaching the platform at Colombo Fort Railway Station.
As a result of the derailment, four platforms at Colombo Fort Railway Station have been blocked, disrupting normal railway operations.
The Department of Railways has advised the public that several train services originating from Colombo Fort are likely to experience delays while recovery operations are carried out.
