Meteorology Department Warns of Strong Winds and Rough Seas

The Department of Meteorology has issued a weather advisory warning of strong winds and rough sea conditions in several coastal waters around the country.

The Department of Meteorology has issued a weather advisory warning of strong winds and rough sea conditions in several coastal waters around the country.

The advisory, which is valid until 11.00 AM tomorrow (07), covers the sea areas extending from Kankasanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota.

According to the Department, these sea areas are expected to experience very rough conditions at times, with wind speeds reaching 55 to 65 kmph.

The Department also warned that wave heights could increase to between 2.0 and 2.5 metres in the coastal waters stretching from Chilaw to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota.

The naval and fishing communities have been advised to exercise caution and remain alert to further weather updates and advisories issued by the Department of Meteorology.
