A railway guard's compartment has been transported by road from Kandy railway station to Peradeniya railway station in what is believed to be a first in Sri Lanka's railway history.
The compartment was carefully loaded at Kandy Railway Station, transported by road without using railway tracks, and successfully unloaded at Peradeniya Railway Station.
The unique operation marks a significant milestone in the country's railway sector and demonstrates the logistical planning and coordination involved in maintaining and upgrading Sri Lanka's railway infrastructure.
Railway officials said the successful transport showcases an innovative approach to handling railway equipment when conventional track movement is not feasible.
