The Civil Appellate High Court has rejected applications filed by former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Pujith Jayasundara and former Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Nilantha Jayawardena seeking to be released from legal proceedings related to the 2019 Easter Sunday terror attacks.

The two former senior police officials had requested the court to dismiss the proceedings against them. However, the Civil Appellate High Court refused their applications, allowing the case to continue.

The ruling marks another significant development in the ongoing legal process concerning accountability over the Easter Sunday attacks, which claimed more than 260 lives and injured hundreds of others in April 2019.
