Dr. Salih is attending the funeral on behalf of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake. The ceremonial services are scheduled to take place in Tehran on Saturday and Sunday, July 4 and 5, with representatives from more than 30 countries expected to attend and pay their final respects.
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, 86, was reported killed in a joint U.S.-Israeli air strike on his compound in February.
Upon his arrival in Tehran, Dr. Salih was received by senior Iranian government officials and members of the Sri Lankan Embassy in Iran.
Sri Lanka's participation in the funeral ceremonies reflects the country's diplomatic engagement with Iran during a period of international mourning.
