Several spells of showers are expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North Western provinces, as well as in the Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya districts during the next 24 hours, according to the latest weather forecast. A few showers may also occur in the Anuradhapura District.

Strong winds with speeds of 40–50 kmph are expected at times over the western slopes of the central hills, the Northern, North Central, and North Western provinces, and in the Hambantota and Trincomalee districts.

Sea Areas

Showers or thundershowers are forecast at a few places in the sea areas off the coast from Kalpitiya to Galle via Colombo.

Winds over surrounding sea areas will be south-westerly with speeds of 30–40 kmph. However, wind speeds may increase to 50–60 kmph at times in the sea areas extending from Mullaittivu to Puttalam via Mannar and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota. Winds may also reach 50 kmph at times in the other sea areas around the island.

The sea will be rough at times in the waters extending from Mullaittivu to Puttalam via Mannar and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota, while the remaining sea areas may be fairly rough.

Wave heights are expected to increase to 2.0–2.5 metres in the sea areas extending from Chilaw to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle, and Hambantota.

Authorities advise fishermen and naval operators to exercise caution due to strong winds, rough seas, and elevated wave conditions. Residents in affected areas are also encouraged to stay updated with the latest weather advisories.
