Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) General Secretary Tilvin Silva says relations between the JVP and the Communist Party of China (CPC) have been further strengthened following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) during President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s visit to China earlier this year.

Speaking at an event commemorating the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, Silva said the agreement has already facilitated training and study programmes in China for members of the JVP and the National People’s Power (NPP), with additional exchange programmes expected in the future.

He expressed appreciation for the close relationship between the two parties, noting that the CPC has continued to support the JVP through various cooperation initiatives.

Silva also praised China’s economic and social development, attributing its transformation into one of the world’s leading economies to the leadership of Mao Zedong, Deng Xiaoping, and President Xi Jinping. He highlighted the impact of China’s reform and opening-up policies introduced in 1978 and the country’s development under the model of “socialism with Chinese characteristics.”

Referring to China’s poverty alleviation efforts, Silva commended the country for lifting millions of rural residents out of extreme poverty by 2020, describing the achievement as an example for other nations.

He also praised President Xi Jinping’s anti-corruption initiatives and efforts to strengthen the Communist Party, stating that these measures had contributed significantly to China’s modern development.

Silva reaffirmed the JVP’s commitment to maintaining close relations with the Communist Party of China and concluded by extending the party’s greetings while underscoring the importance of the longstanding friendship between Sri Lanka and China.
