Rear Admiral Dassanaike appointed acting NACWC Director

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has appointed Rear Admiral Hasantha Dassanaike to cover the duties of Director of the National Authority for the Implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention (NACWC), with effect from June 26, 2026.

Rear Admiral Dassanaike officially received his letter of appointment from Defence Secretary Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd) during a formal ceremony held at the Ministry of Defence.

In his new role, Rear Admiral Dassanaike will oversee the implementation of Sri Lanka's obligations under the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) and the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW). His responsibilities include strengthening the country's regulatory oversight, enhancing national implementation of the convention, and promoting international cooperation in the peaceful use of chemicals.
