The Government has proposed increasing the maximum fine for employing children from Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 100,000 through amendments to the Employment of Women, Young Persons and Children Act.

Under the proposed Bill, individuals found guilty by a court of employing children could also face imprisonment for up to 12 months, or both a fine and imprisonment.

The proposed amendments are aimed at strengthening legal measures against child labour by imposing significantly tougher penalties on offenders. The Bill will take effect if it is passed by Parliament.
