Chief Executive Officer Asanka Nanayakkara said lifeguards have been assigned to more than 50 locations this year, in addition to the areas that are routinely covered during the annual pilgrimage season.
The expanded deployment covers key locations in Puttalam, Kurunegala, Anuradhapura, and Polonnaruwa, where large numbers of devotees are expected to gather.
The operation is being carried out jointly by personnel from the Sri Lanka Life Saving Association, the Sri Lanka Navy, the Sri Lanka Army, and the Sri Lanka Police Lifeguard Units.
In addition to inland locations, lifeguards have also been stationed along the southern coastline, including Galle, Matara, and Hikkaduwa, to enhance public safety during the holiday period.
The Association has urged the public to act responsibly in the event of a water-related emergency by immediately seeking assistance from trained lifeguards and emergency responders, emphasizing that prompt action can help save lives.
