The Sri Lanka Excise Department has announced that all licensed retail liquor outlets across the island will remain closed from June 28 until the scheduled reopening on June 30 in view of the Poson Full Moon Poya Day.

The department also stated that, in line with the State Poson Festival and the declaration of Poson Week, all excise-licensed liquor outlets located within the Anuradhapura Sacred City and the Divisional Secretariat areas of Mihintale, Nuwaragam Palatha Central, Nuwaragam Palatha East, and Mahavilachchiya will remain closed from June 26 to July 2.

The Excise Department has urged the public to report any liquor outlets found operating in violation of these directives or breaching licensing conditions by contacting its 24-hour Operations Centre via the 1913 hotline.

The department further noted that all Excise Station Officers have been instructed to take strict legal action against license holders who fail to comply with the closure order or violate the terms of their excise licences.
