A total of 42 people were hospitalized after a Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) bus travelling from Colombo to Badulla veered off the road and plunged into a 20-foot precipice near the Diyatalawa Railway Station, police said.

The injured passengers were rushed to the Diyatalawa Base Hospital, where they are receiving treatment. Authorities said none of the injuries were immediately reported as life-threatening, although the condition of some passengers is still being assessed.

The cause of the accident has not yet been determined. Police have launched an investigation to establish the circumstances that led to the bus leaving the roadway.
