The Colombo High Court today ordered the case filed against Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) General Secretary Ven. Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thero, over an allegedly derogatory statement made against Islam, to be called again on July 31.

The case was scheduled to be heard before Colombo High Court Judge Buddhika C. Ragala today (26). However, as Judge Ragala was on official leave, the matter was taken up before Colombo High Court Judge Udesh Ranatunga instead. Judge Ranatunga directed that the case be called on July 31 for a pre-trial conference.

The accused, Ven. Gnanasara Thero, was present in open court when the case was called.

The Attorney General filed this lawsuit against the BBS monk, accusing him of making statements defamatory to Islam, thereby acts disrupting and violating communal harmony among ethnic and religious communities in the country.
