Major events have been organized at Mihintale, the Anuradhapura Atamasthana, and Thanthirimale, where thousands of devotees are expected to gather to commemorate the Poson festival, which marks the introduction of Buddhism to Sri Lanka.
Anuradhapura District Secretary Ranjith Wimalasuriya said all necessary arrangements have been made to accommodate the large influx of pilgrims visiting the Anuradhapura district during the Poson season. Measures include enhanced public facilities, traffic management, security, sanitation, and essential services to ensure a safe and convenient pilgrimage experience.
National Poson Week will continue until July 2, featuring religious ceremonies, sil campaigns, dansal (alms-giving), devotional programmes, and other activities promoting the teachings of the Buddha and the values of peace, compassion, and harmony.
Authorities have also urged devotees to cooperate with officials, maintain cleanliness at religious sites, and observe the festival in a respectful and environmentally responsible manner.
