The suspect was arrested in the Kaithady area of Chavakachcheri while traveling from Wellawatte to Jaffna on a private bus, disguised and accompanied by his wife and child.
Meanwhile, a special police team from Nuwara Eliya also arrested a friend of the suspect in the Kundasale area. The individual, a driver attached to the Kundasale Pradeshiya Sabha, is accused of assisting the suspect by helping conceal the victim’s body and providing him with accommodation after the crime.
The three suspects are scheduled to be produced before the Nuwara Eliya Magistrate’s Court today (June 25). Police are expected to seek detention orders to facilitate further investigations into the murder.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Chandana Basnayake, who is in charge of the Nuwara Eliya Division, stated that investigations into the killing are continuing.
Relatives of the murdered physiotherapist were present when the main suspect was brought to the Nuwara Eliya Police Station.
Police have also taken into custody the car allegedly used to transport the victim’s body and the motorcycle believed to have been used to assist the suspect’s movements following the crime.
