The proposed legislation was officially handed over to the Secretary-General of Parliament by Mustapha. The bill seeks to regulate children's access to social media platforms and protect them from harmful online content.
According to the draft bill, the Minister in charge of Children's Affairs would be granted the authority to issue regulations preventing children under 16 from accessing social media platforms. The legislation also proposes measures to limit the amount of time a child can spend on social media each day and to prescribe specific hours during which such platforms may be used.
The primary objective of the bill is to enhance the online safety of children by reducing their exposure to harmful digital content and promoting responsible use of social media.
The proposal is expected to be considered through the parliamentary legislative process before any provisions can come into effect.
