Chief Justice Preethi Padman Surasena has emphasized that achieving success in a profession requires dedication and perseverance, noting that professional accomplishment should not be judged solely by financial rewards.

Addressing the official swearing-in ceremony of newly admitted attorneys at the Supreme Court yesterday (22), the Chief Justice congratulated the new members of the legal profession and highlighted the importance of knowledge, competence and quality service in building a successful legal career.

He reminded the newly enrolled lawyers that they are now officers of the court and play a vital role in the administration of justice, adding that courts place considerable trust in the submissions and representations made by legal practitioners.

The Chief Justice further noted that only individuals with good character, professional competence and a strong reputation are eligible to enter the legal profession under the law.

He stressed that maintaining high ethical and professional standards is an ongoing responsibility and expressed confidence that the new attorneys would contribute to preserving the dignity and credibility of the legal profession.

Highlighting the importance of integrity, he stated that the reputation of the legal profession ultimately depends on the conduct and values demonstrated by its practitioners, both in their professional duties and personal lives.
