Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the Early Childhood Education Development Programme, the Minister emphasized the importance of integrating early childhood education with the country’s broader education framework.
She noted that preschool education should function in alignment with the national education system and stressed that the Ministry of Education must play a significant role in its development, regulation, and oversight.
Minister Paulraj further pointed out that preschool education in Sri Lanka currently operates with limited regulation and has yet to be formally established as a state-run service. She highlighted the need for a structured and uniform approach to ensure equal learning opportunities and quality standards for children across the country.
The proposed initiative aims to create a consistent preschool education framework in all nine provinces, strengthening early childhood development and laying a stronger foundation for future learning.
The Early Childhood Education Development Programme is expected to support efforts to improve standards, teacher training, and overall governance within the preschool sector as the government works toward achieving the 2027 target.
