The Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL) has announced the extension of National Team Head Coach Abdullah Almutairi’s contract, retaining him to lead the national side under the Federation’s newly introduced strategic initiative, “The Next Chapter.”

FFSL President Jaswar Umar confirmed the decision following discussions with Almutairi on the future direction of Sri Lanka Football. He commended the coach’s dedication, professionalism and achievements during his initial tenure, highlighting that the national team improved its FIFA ranking from 205 to 187 while recording several notable international victories.

Umar said the Federation was pleased with the progress made under Almutairi’s leadership and, having met key performance objectives, decided to offer him a new contract with confidence in his ability to guide the team forward.

Under the renewed agreement, Almutairi will continue to prepare the national squad for upcoming international tournaments while implementing the FFSL’s new technical and development plans.

The Federation said the coach will play a key role in its long-term strategy to strengthen the national team, improve competitiveness and raise the profile of Sri Lankan football on the regional and international stage.

According to the FFSL, the contract extension represents another important step in its “The Next Chapter” programme, which is aimed at ensuring sustainable growth and long-term success for Sri Lanka Football.
