S. Paul Kapur arrived in Colombo today on a three-day official visit to Sri Lanka, scheduled from June 21 to June 24, underscoring growing cooperation between the United States and Sri Lanka.

During his visit, Assistant Secretary Kapur is expected to hold discussions with senior Sri Lankan government leaders, private sector executives, and representatives of U.S. companies operating in the country. The meetings will focus on expanding bilateral trade and investment opportunities, strengthening security cooperation, and advancing shared regional priorities.

The visit highlights the United States’ continued engagement in the Indian Ocean region and reflects the administration of Donald Trump in promoting partnerships that support American economic and security interests. It also reaffirms Washington’s commitment to deepening ties with Sri Lanka, which is viewed as an important strategic partner in the Indian Ocean.

Officials are expected to discuss avenues for enhancing economic collaboration, supporting private-sector growth, and strengthening cooperation on regional security challenges during the visit.

The visit comes amid increasing international attention on the Indian Ocean region, with both countries seeking to expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest and reinforce longstanding bilateral relations.
