The International Day of Yoga 2026 celebration in Colombo witnessed an overwhelming response, with more than 2,000 participants coming together in a powerful display of unity, health, and well-being. Over 100 yoga instructors from across Sri Lanka led yoga demonstrations, guiding participants through a series of asanas and wellness practices.
The event brought together personnel from the Sri Lankan Tri-Forces, the Sri Lanka Police, students, and yoga practitioners, reflecting the growing popularity of yoga as a holistic approach to physical and mental wellness. The large-scale participation highlighted the enduring message of Yoga for Healthy Ageing and the shared commitment of both India and Sri Lanka to promoting healthy lifestyles.
The celebration was organized by the High Commission of India, Colombo in collaboration with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Ministry of Ayush, Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga and other partner organizations, reaffirming yoga’s role as a bridge of friendship, harmony, and cultural connection between nations.
The event concluded with a collective pledge to embrace yoga as a way of life and to continue fostering wellness, mindfulness, and healthy ageing within communities across Sri Lanka and beyond.
