The Sri Lanka Police have announced that a special security and traffic management programme will be implemented in view of the upcoming Poson Festival.

According to police, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) has issued instructions to all Officers-in-Charge (OICs) of police stations and senior police officers across the country regarding the arrangements.

Under the special operational plan, day and night mobile patrols, foot patrols, bicycle patrols, beat patrols, and motorcycle patrols will be deployed within every police division. Traffic officers will also be stationed at locations expected to experience heavy vehicle congestion to ensure the smooth flow of traffic and maintain public safety.

Police further stated that legal action will be taken against individuals or groups engaging in activities that undermine the sanctity of the Poson Festival or cause inconvenience and disturbance to devotees during the festive period.

The enhanced security and traffic measures are aimed at ensuring a peaceful, safe, and orderly environment for the large number of pilgrims and devotees expected to participate in Poson religious observances across the country.
