Under the new regulations, drivers are required to wear seat belts while operating a vehicle. In addition, all passengers traveling on expressways must wear seat belts at all times.
The government has also taken steps to make seat belt use compulsory for both front-seat and rear-seat passengers. A grace period had previously been granted to allow motorists to comply with the new requirements, but that period ended yesterday (June 19).
Accordingly, authorities have confirmed that the regulation will be fully enforced from today.
For vehicles traveling on regular roads, the driver and the passenger seated in the front passenger seat are required to wear seat belts. Meanwhile, on expressways, the driver and all passengers in the vehicle must wear seat belts throughout the journey.
The National Council for Road Safety stated that the measure has been introduced to enhance road safety and reduce the severity of injuries and fatalities resulting from traffic accidents.
