Sri Lanka Customs officials at the Bandaranaike International Airport have seized a stock of hashish weighing 37 kilograms and 675 grams, with an estimated street value exceeding Rs. 375 million.

The narcotics were detected during a customs inspection, leading to the arrest of a 24-year-old national of the Dominican Republic who had allegedly attempted to smuggle the drugs into the country.

Customs authorities stated that the suspect was taken into custody and further investigations are underway to determine the intended recipients and possible links to international drug trafficking networks.

The seized hashish has been handed over for further legal proceedings, while officials reiterated their commitment to strengthening border security and preventing the entry of illicit narcotics into Sri Lanka.
