Speaking at the Beruwala Divisional Coordination Committee meeting, the Minister emphasized that preventing the spread of dengue requires the collective responsibility of both the public and institutions.
He noted that maintaining clean surroundings at homes, government offices, schools, workplaces, and other public locations is essential to eliminate mosquito breeding sites and curb the spread of the disease.
Dr. Jayatissa warned that a further increase in dengue cases could place an unsustainable burden on hospitals, affecting their ability to provide proper patient care.
The Minister stressed that, while long-term strategies remain important, the most effective immediate measure is to eliminate mosquito breeding grounds by ensuring a clean environment. He added that controlling the spread of dengue is still possible if timely preventive action is taken by the public.
