The Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre has issued an advisory for strong winds and rough seas affecting several sea areas around Sri Lanka, valid from 1.00 p.m. on June 18 until 1.00 p.m. on June 19, 2026.

According to the warning, strong southwesterly winds ranging between 50–60 kmph, with gusts reaching up to 70 kmph, are expected over the sea areas extending from Puttalam to Kankesanthurai via Mannar, and from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota.

The advisory notes that the affected sea regions are likely to experience very rough conditions, posing risks to maritime activities. Other sea areas around the island may also witness temporarily strong winds of 50–60 kmph and rough seas during thundershowers.

Fishermen, naval personnel, and the maritime community are strongly advised to exercise caution while operating in these waters. Small craft and fishing vessels are urged to remain vigilant and closely monitor future weather updates issued by authorities.

The Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre further advises the public and marine operators to stay informed through official forecasts and warnings as weather conditions may change rapidly.
