Former Pakistan cricket captain Wasim Akram has praised Sri Lanka as one of the world’s finest travel destinations, highlighting its breathtaking natural beauty and recalling his long-standing connection with the island.

Speaking at an Investor Forum Event in Colombo, Akram said Sri Lanka remains one of his favourite countries to visit despite his extensive travels across the globe.

Akram, who was introduced as the new brand ambassador for Softlogic Life, said filming the company’s latest television commercial gave him another opportunity to visit some of Sri Lanka’s most picturesque locations, including Galle and the Central Highlands.

The former fast-bowling great said the country’s scenic landscapes, rivers and coastline rank among the most impressive he has seen, adding that he believes Sri Lanka deserves to be recognised as one of the world’s leading tourist destinations.

Recalling his first visit to Sri Lanka in 1985 as a teenager, Akram said he has returned to the country many times over the years as a cricketer, commentator and tourist. He also expressed his intention to continue visiting Sri Lanka and said he hopes to explore more of the island’s Eastern Coast in the future.
