The Court of Appeal has scheduled for today (June 18) the hearing of a writ petition filed by former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa seeking an order preventing his arrest in connection with investigations into the 2019 Easter Sunday terrorist attacks.
The petition was taken up yesterday afternoon before a bench comprising Court of Appeal President Judge Rohantha Abeysuriya and Judge Sarath Dissanayake.
After considering the matter, the Court ordered that the petition be heard today.
The writ application seeks judicial intervention to prevent the former President’s arrest over matters related to the ongoing investigations into the Easter Sunday attacks, one of the deadliest terrorist incidents in Sri Lanka’s history.
Further proceedings are expected when the case is called before the Court of Appeal today.
