A magnitude 6.3 earthquake struck Haixi Prefecture in northwest China’s Qinghai Province on Tuesday, according to the China Earthquake Networks Centre (CENC).

The quake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometres and hit the high-altitude region at 5:06 pm Beijing time (0906 GMT), CENC said.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage. Local authorities have begun assessing the impact of the earthquake, state broadcaster CCTV reported.
