Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa has welcomed the reported agreement between the United States and Iran, describing it as a powerful reminder that dialogue remains humanity’s greatest strength.

In a message shared on the social media platform X ( Formerly Twitter), Premadasa said Sri Lanka understands both the cost of division and the importance of reconciliation. He stressed that peace is not merely the absence of conflict, but the presence of hope, dignity, opportunity, and confidence in a better future for coming generations.

Expressing his support for global peace efforts, he added, “May peace prevail,” noting that people around the world deserve lasting peace and stability.

Premadasa’s remarks came after US President Donald Trump announced that Washington had reached an agreement with Tehran, which reportedly includes lifting the US blockade on Iranian ports.

The reported breakthrough follows months of heightened tensions between Israel and Iran, with the United States playing a key role in facilitating negotiations.
