Gold prices in Sri Lanka have risen significantly following a sharp increase in international gold prices, market sources reported.

According to sources in the Colombo gold market at Hetti Veediya, local gold prices increased by Rs. 6,000 compared to the rates recorded at 9:00 a.m. today.

As a result, the price of a 22-carat gold sovereign in the Colombo gold market was recorded at Rs. 360,600 this morning.

Market sources further stated that the price of a 24-carat gold sovereign, which stood at Rs. 386,000 on Saturday (June 13), has increased to Rs. 392,000 today.

The rise in local gold prices comes amid a surge in international gold prices, which reportedly climbed to US$4,325 in the global market, driving upward pressure on domestic gold rates.

Gold traders say continued fluctuations in international prices and currency movements are likely to influence local market trends in the coming days.
