More than 5,000 Bharatanatyam dancers gathered at Galle Face Green in Colombo today to set a Guinness World Record for the largest Bharatanatyam dance lesson.

The event, organised by Sangamam Global Academy of India and Samgamizh Liya of Sri Lanka, brought together participants from Sri Lanka, India and several other countries in a celebration of classical dance and cultural heritage.

Dressed in traditional attire, the dancers performed synchronised Bharatanatyam movements under the guidance of instructors as part of the official record attempt. Following the adjudication process, the Guinness World Records certificate was awarded, confirming the new world record.

Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Santosh Jha, received the certificate on behalf of the performers and organisers and congratulated those involved in the achievement.

The event was also attended by Ramalingam Chandrasekar, Sundaralingam Pradeep and Mahinda Jayasinghe. Organisers said the initiative was aimed at showcasing the enduring tradition of Bharatanatyam while promoting cultural exchange and unity across borders.
