An individual has been arrested in Kuliyapitiya after law enforcement authorities intercepted a container loaded with an illegal shipment of 42 motorcycle chassis and engines, alongside 190 bottles of high-value, Japanese-manufactured liquor.

The raid was executed by officers of the Divisional Crimes Investigation Unit, following specific intelligence received by Janaka Karunasinghe, the Police Superintendent in charge of the Kuliyapitiya Division.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the contraband was smuggled into the country from Japan. The perpetrators had reportedly used a legal front, pretending to import standard motorcycle spare parts, to mask the high-value illicit goods inside the shipping container.

The high-stakes operation was carried out under the direct supervision of the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), with strategic tactical reinforcement provided by the Police Special Task Force (STF).

Following the initial seizure and arrest, the suspect remains in custody. The Kuliyapitiya Police have launched an extensive, further investigation to uncover the broader network behind the smuggling racket and bring all involved parties to justice.
