As part of the Government’s national digital transformation program, a new online system for issuing subsidized railway season tickets to public sector employees will be introduced from July, enabling all applications and ticket processing to be completed digitally through the official portal.

Under the new initiative, government officers will be able to obtain their subsidized railway season tickets via the online platform available at pravesha.lk and through the Pravesha mobile application.

The registration process for government institutions was officially launched on June 9 at the Waters Edge Hotel in Battaramulla under the patronage of Deputy Minister of Transport and Highways Dr. Prasanna Gunasena. Representatives from ministries, provincial councils, and other state institutions attended the inaugural event.

According to the new system, government institutions must first register with the digital railway platform before submitting season ticket applications on behalf of their employees. Public officers requiring subsidized season tickets must register through their respective institutions with the coordination of the designated officer responsible for the subject area.

Officials will be able to register their details and submit applications for July 2026 season tickets from 15 June 2026 onwards through the online platform or the Pravesha mobile application.

The initiative is being implemented under the guidance of the Ministry of Transport, Highways and Urban Development, in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Railways Department and the Colombo Suburban Railway Project.

Authorities state that the project aims to advance the Government’s digital transformation agenda, improve the efficiency and quality of railway services, streamline administrative processes, and enhance convenience for both public sector employees and railway passengers across the country.
