The Irrigation Department has reported a steady rise in water levels in both the Kalu Ganga and the Attanagalu Oya following recent rainfall, with several monitoring stations approaching minor flood levels.

According to L.S. Suriyabandara, Director of the Hydrology Division of the Irrigation Department, water levels in the Kalu Ganga at the Ratnapura and Millakanda gauging stations are continuing to increase and are nearing the minor flood threshold.

Similarly, the water level of the Attanagalu Oya at the Dunamale monitoring station has also risen significantly and is approaching a minor flood level.

The Irrigation Department has urged residents living in low-lying areas along the riverbanks to remain vigilant and stay informed through official weather and flood advisories. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and will issue further updates if water levels continue to rise.

Residents in vulnerable areas are advised to take necessary precautions and be prepared for possible flooding should heavy rainfall persist in the coming days.
