The Anuradhapura Chief Magistrate’s Court today ordered former Atamasthanadhipathi Venerable Pallegama Hemarathana Thero to provide a blood sample for a DNA test in connection with an ongoing investigation into allegations of sexual abuse involving a minor.

The order was issued after a Government Analyst’s report reportedly confirmed the presence of the girl’s DNA on clothing that had been recovered after being buried and subsequently submitted for forensic examination.

According to police, the clothing is believed to have been worn by the alleged victim at the time of the incident. Following the submission of a further report by the Nittambuwa Police detailing the forensic findings, the court directed that a DNA sample also be obtained from Ven. Hemarathana Thero for comparison purposes.

The court instructed the former Atamasthanadhipathi to appear before the Government Analyst’s Department on June 16 to provide the required blood sample.

The Government Analyst was further ordered to submit the DNA examination report to the court upon completion of the testing.

The investigation remains ongoing, and no findings of guilt have been made by the court. The allegations against Ven. Hemarathana Thero are yet to be proven in a court of law.
