Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development Wasantha Samarasinghe held bilateral talks with Wang Yubo, Governor of Yunnan Province, aimed at further strengthening trade and investment ties between Sri Lanka and China.

According to the Ministry of Trade, discussions focused on enhancing bilateral trade relations and expanding cooperation across several key economic sectors.

The meeting also reviewed Sri Lanka’s growing participation in the 10th South Asian Expo, where nearly 100 Sri Lankan companies are showcasing products such as Ceylon tea, gems, spices, and apparel, highlighting the country’s export capabilities.

Both parties also explored the possibility of studying Yunnan’s specialized trade facilitation programmes to identify practices that could be adapted to support Sri Lankan exporters and improve their competitiveness in international markets.

Governor Wang reaffirmed Yunnan Province’s commitment to supporting Sri Lanka’s efforts to expand trade and strengthen capacity-building initiatives.

The discussions concluded with both sides agreeing to further enhance business-to-business partnerships and promote greater investment cooperation, with the aim of deepening economic engagement between Sri Lanka and China.
