Community Physician Specialist Dr. Prasheela Samaraweera stated that the programme has been initiated in response to the recent rise in dengue cases islandwide.
As part of ongoing dengue prevention activities, health authorities recently conducted a special mosquito control operation from June 8 to 10, targeting the identification and removal of mosquito breeding sites in high-risk areas.
Dr. Samaraweera also revealed that plans are underway to implement a separate mosquito eradication campaign through local government authorities to further strengthen dengue control measures and minimise the spread of the disease.
Health officials have called on the public to actively support these efforts by maintaining clean environments, eliminating stagnant water sources and ensuring that homes and surrounding areas remain free of mosquito breeding grounds.
