The Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court is expected to issue its ruling today (10) on a request by the Attorney General seeking the appointment of a specialist medical board to examine former State Intelligence Service (SIS) Director Major General (Retired) Suresh Sallay and submit a medical assessment report.

Sallay, who is currently being held under the provisions of the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA), is presently receiving treatment at the Colombo National Hospital.

The matter was previously taken up before the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court on June 4 following a motion filed on behalf of the suspect.

The court considered submissions made by Additional Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris before reserving its order on the Attorney General’s request.

Accordingly, the court’s decision on whether to appoint a specialist medical board is scheduled to be delivered later today.
